Available is a stunning 40mm carving knife made from ancient bog oak
Blade: O2 carbon steel. Hardness: 60hrc ±1. Blade length: 40mm. Blade thickness: 2,5mm
Handle: The handle is crafted from a stunning piece of jet black ancient bog oak from the Lincolnshire fens. Carbon dating has aged these bog oak trees at 5000 years old
The bog oak has been dug up from the Lincolnshire fens and carefully air dried then kiln dried before being quarter sawn to give a beautifully contrasting pattern.
Radio carbon dating has shown these ancient giant oaks to be around 3300BC.
In the rear of the handle has been inserted a piece of solid brass lanyard tubing with a piece of handcut leather thonging also included.
Also included is a matching 5000 year old bog oak keyring with brass tubing and brass split ring and hand stamped branded leather tabs.
Leather: The knife is being sold with a handstitched leather slip. The leather is a full grain shoulder of French bull leather. The leather has been vegetable tanned so no harsh chemicals have been used in the process. This makes the process slower but the leather is a superior quality.
The leather has been hand stitched using a 1mm thick tan thread using the saddle stitch technique.
