Available is a stunning 88mm carving knife made from Fenland ancient bog oak

Blade:  88mm x 16mm blade 3mm thick

The edge is flat ground, a hollow would disappear very quickly. This blade is more manoeuvrable in a concave cut. If you can’t keep the edge bevel dead flat it’s not a major issue, the blade will turn even better. The primary grind allows the tang to be rigid enough for more powerful cuts.

These blades were designed by Nic Westermann to echo some features of the turning sloyd and have a subtly hollowed spine that has been smoothed and polished for comfort when push cutting.

Handle: The handle is crafted from a stunning piece of jet black bog oak dug up from the Fens on the Cambridgeshire/Norfolk borders and carefully air dried then kiln dried before being quarter sawn to give a beautifully contrasting pattern.

Radio carbon dating has shown these ancient giant oaks to be around 3300BC.

Lastly, Norfolk spalted beech and boxwood finish it off with Norfolk cherry in the rear

Leather: The knife is being sold with a handstitched leather blade slip or a sheath is available as an option or contact me for further sheath options.
