Available is a stunning English yew burr & bog oak handled knife
Handle: The main part of the handle is made from a beautifully figured piece of English yew burr from Suffolk. The Yew tree is deeply embedded in the culture of the British Isles. One of the oldest surviving man-made objects found in the northern hemisphere is a spearhead made of yew dating back at least 150 000 years to the dawn of man. Yew was the wood of choice for longbows because of its strength and resistive qualities, the wood of the yew being the hardest around, so dense it sinks in water. Arrows used to be tipped with the toxic sap of the yew in order to poison the enemy.
Between the handle and the blade is piece of ancient bog oak thousands of years old buried deep in the bogs of Lincolnshire. Bog Oak is one of the world’s rarest and sought-after species of bog wood. Bog Oak originates from tree trunks that have started to fossilize in peat bogs, lakes, river bottoms, and swamps for centuries and even millennia. Deprived of oxygen, the wood undergoes a slow morta-formation process, where water currents help bind earthly minerals and iron with tannins in the wood, giving the wood a natural, beautiful stain, unlike anything else.
Blade: 70mm handforged 1085 carbon steel
Sheath: The knife comes with a handstitched leather sheath with belt loop. There is an additional brass D ring fitted for additional utility of hanging it up or adding a dangler etc...
